Excellent results for the Belgian Masters in Singapore

It was a busy (swimming) summer, because our Masters were also active this summer during the World Championships in Singapore. And it must be said: their performances were nothing short of impressive!

We are proud of all the Belgian Masters (swimming, open water, artistic swimming) who prepared themselves day after day throughout the season to participate in August. Your dedication and perseverance deserve all the praise. In this overview, we put the medal winners in the spotlight.

In open water, Steven Claes (ZCT) showed that he is one of the world's best, even in extreme conditions. Despite the scorching heat, he managed to crown himself world champion in the 3,000m freestyle in the 30-34 age category – a performance that once again underlines his class.

There was a great deal of Belgian success in the swimming pool. Caroline Cavadini (CNBA) returned home with an impressive list of achievements: silver in the 100m freestyle, bronze in the 50m freestyle, gold in the 400m freestyle and, the icing on the cake, gold in the 200m freestyle in a new European record in the 35-39 age category.

Maaike Ramael (GBZ) also dominated the tournament. She took gold in the 50m butterfly in the 25-29 age category, but her greatest achievement came in the 200m medley. There she swam to a world record in 2:19.54, more than a second faster than the previous record. She also won gold in the 100m backstroke with a European record, and took silver in the 50m backstroke.

Lionel Godeaux (CNSW) also made his mark with an impressive bronze medal in the 50m freestyle, while Frederick Tonus, who has Belgian nationality but competes for a Luxembourg club, stood on the podium three times. He became world champion in the 50m butterfly in the 50-54 age category, won silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Also worth mentioning is Dries Laukens (KAZS), who competed in three diving events and was unlucky to finish fourth three times, just missing out on the podium each time.

We had one participant in artistic swimming, Eliane Nierinck, who lives in Korea and finished 7th and 9th in the TECH and FREE solo events respectively.

With world and European records, multiple gold medals and outstanding performances, our masters made Belgium more than proud in Singapore. Congratulations to all participants!
