National Swimming Competition Calendar 2026–2027
The Royal Belgian Swimming Federation, the Flemish Swimming Federation, and the Francophone Belgian Swimming Federation present the competition swimming calendar for the 2026–2027 season. A renewed calendar has been developed, aiming to optimally serve and support both elite sport and grassroots sport.
The Belgian Championships (BCs) that are announced will be organized at these times for two consecutive seasons. In 2028, this structure will be evaluated, taking into account feedback from all stakeholders involved.
The organization of the various BCs will be assigned through tenders. These will be published next week for all championships, with the exception of the “Open Belgian Championships long course,” which will continue to be held in Antwerp in the coming years in collaboration with Zwemfed.
Start of the season – short course
The season kicks off in September with the Belgian Relay Championships in a short course pool on 19 and 20 September 2026. This championship emphasizes the team aspect of swimming and serves as a dynamic opening of the new season.
November brings a busy and important period in the short course season. From 13 to 15 November 2026, the Belgian Qualification Meet is scheduled. This competition offers swimmers the opportunity to qualify for international championships and serves as an important benchmark within the season.
This is followed by the Belgian Championships per age category. From 20 to 22 November 2026, the BC for 11- to 16-year-olds will take place, also in a short course pool. This championship provides young swimmers with an important opportunity to compete at the national level.
The short course season concludes with the Open Belgian Championships for ages 17 and up, held from 18 to 20 December 2026. This championship traditionally represents a highlight, where both established athletes and emerging talents come together.
Second half of the season – long course
After the winter period, the focus shifts to the long course season. The Open Belgian Championships are scheduled for 14, 15, and 16 May 2027. This is an important benchmark for swimmers with international ambitions, both in youth and senior categories.
One week later, from 21 to 23 May 2027, the BC for 11- to 14-year-olds will take place in a long course pool. This gives younger categories the opportunity to showcase themselves in the long course format.
End of the season
The pool season concludes with the Belgian Sprint Championships in a short course pool on 3 and 4 July 2027. This championship guarantees fast races and provides an exciting conclusion to the swimming year.
With this calendar, the Royal Belgian Swimming Federation aims to ensure clarity, continuity, and an optimal distribution of competitions. We look forward to a sporting and successful 2026–2027 season, in which performance, development, and experience are central.
