In a dispute over the selection criteria for the World Championships in Melbourne, the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS) has ruled that although the RBSF has wide discretionary power to set selection criteria and the selection criteria are also based on an objective and legitimate justification, it communicated this too late. Therefore, for Melbourne, the FINA criteria will simply apply. 

RBSF wishes to emphasise that the original decision was taken in the interest of the sport of swimming taking into account a broader philosophy regarding international selections framed within the integral top sports policy.
