Passing away of Luc Van Laere
It is with sadness that we heard of the death of Luc Van Laere. He unfortunately lost the battle against a lingering illness after years of struggle.
Luc was an active board member of swimming clubs MZV/MZE (including as chairman) and MEGA swimming team for many years. But above all, he was active as an (inter)national official for no less than 30 years.
During those decades, he was (co-)responsible for the training of officials in Flanders for 15 years. At the end of last year, he even took one last practical test in Sint-Niklaas for officials in training.
Luc also represented our country as an official at many international tournaments for 10 years. He enjoyed sharing his experiences with colleagues throughout the country. He helped raise the level of officials in Flanders/Belgium to the strong level it is at now.
With his affable personality, Luc made many friends over the years in his beloved swimming world, which he continued to enjoy for as long as possible. During this year's Flanders Swimming Cup, Luc was honoured, together with his inseparable colleague, Luc Henderyckx, for his many years of merit for swimming in Flanders, and by extension Belgium.
The Royal Belgian Swimming Federation wishes to express its deepest condolences to his wife, his (grand)children, family and Luc's many friends. He will live on in many hearts.
