Recap day 1 Belgian swimming short course championships 2024
In the series of the 200m freestyle, Siri Vanderlinden (LAQUA) raced to a Belgian youth record women 15 years old in a time of 1.58.08. This time also gave her the fastest time. So in the afternoon, Siri will start from lane 4.
At the end of the morning series, the first mixed relay was also on the programme, namely the 4x50m freestyle. MEGA crowned itself Belgian champion, followed by the numbers two and three, BRABO and ZGEEL respectively.
In the finals, Siri Vanderlinden does not manage to repeat her morning performance. She stranded in third place in a time of 2.00.98. Camille Henveaux (LGN) is the new Belgian champion.
On the women's 50m backstroke, Roos Vanotterdijk (DMB) came very close to her personal and also Belgian record. She swam a time of 26.62, staying 0.01 away from her BR.
In the men's 100m backstroke, men Stan Franckx (TRUST) and Noah Verreth (MEGA) make it very exciting. From the start, both men are evenly matched and after 100m the difference is only 0.03 of a second. It is Stan who pulls the longest straw.
During the men's 400m medley, 2 Belgian junior records were also broken. Simon Laviolette (SCR) swims to a new top time (4.21.43) in the boys 16 years old. His clubmate Claudio Buttarelli (SCR) also swims a Belgian youth record (4.26.36) but in the boys 15 years old.
The last individual number of the day also immediately attracts the most attention. Lucas Henveaux impressed from the first 50m. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. After 400m he finishes in a magnificent 3.37.23, good for a new Belgian record. He wipes his own BR off the tables and leaves the competition far behind. A true goose-bump moment! With his time of 3.37.23 he also dives below the limit time for the World Championships in Budapest later this year. WAW!
Another achievement not to be missed is the 400m freestyle of Bas Claerhout (TZT). He swims to a new Belgian youth record among 16-year-olds in a very handsome time of 3.48.98.
To finish, the women's 4x50m medley is also swum. The ladies of BRABO pull out the longest, followed by the ladies of ENLN and TSZ.
