Recap day 3 Belgian swimming short course championships 2024
Also on day 3, we were again treated to a Belgian record by Roos Vanotterdijk (DMB) in the morning series. This time, she broke her own record on the 100m medley by 4 tenths (58.80) , a record that only stood for 2 weeks.
That the final finals session would bring us back great races, we knew in advance. We did not have to wait long.
Lucas Henveaux (LGN) suddenly swam 200m backstroke as if it were his speciality and up to 195m was perhaps on course to swim Lander Hendrickx's BR off the tables. In the end, he finished in a time of 1.54.18 and remained just 4 tenths above the national top time.
Not much later, we saw Roos Vanotterdijk back in action on the 100m medley and you'd never guess, but she swam a new Belgian record! In the final, she was no less than half a second faster than in the morning series, finishing handsomely in 58.24. WAW!
During the men's 100m medley, a Belgian junior record was broken by Alex Van Hoey Billiet. His time of 57.93 is the new top time among the boys 15 years old.
The 50m freestyle brings a titanic duel between Roos Vanotterdijk and Florine Gaspard (CNB). It is Florine who manages to win the race with a fast chrono of 24.09. A time that keeps her exactly 1 tenth above her personal and Belgian record.
Finally, the men's 200m freestyle was also swum and you can already feel us coming. Lucas Henveaux coloured the race as he always does. He pulled the throttle all the way open from the start and registered a 49.42 halfway through to finally finish in a time of 1.42.14! Phenomenal! He improved Pieter Timmers' 9-year-old record from the tables by a whopping 7 tenths! Impressive.
For three days, all swimmers gave their best and a lot of great races were swum. We can look back on a successful Belgian Short Course Championships! The full recap will be online soon thanks to the excellent editorial team of our partner Swimnation.
